History

A brief history of Vancouver

Originally home to the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations for thousands of years, Vancouver was incorporated in 1886, just months before the Canadian Pacific Railway arrived. The Great Fire destroyed the young city that same year, but it was quickly rebuilt — many of the heritage homes we paint today in Strathcona, Mount Pleasant, and the West End date from this rapid late-1800s expansion.

Local Homes

Vancouver home styles we paint

Vancouver's housing stock ranges from 1900s Edwardian and Craftsman heritage homes in Strathcona and Kitsilano, to mid-century Vancouver Specials in East Van, to ultra-modern glass condos in Yaletown and Coal Harbour. Each style demands a different prep and finish strategy.

Local Climate

Weather considerations

Vancouver's oceanic climate brings 1,200+ mm of rain annually. Exterior coatings must handle near-constant winter moisture, and interior paints need mildew-resistant formulas in bathrooms and basements.

4C Painters Vancouver Local Knowledge

Vancouver's wet Pacific climate demands premium primers and weather-rated exterior coatings — exactly what we specify on every job.

Vancouver painting FAQs

Frequently asked questions about painting in Vancouver

Do you paint heritage homes in Strathcona and Mount Pleasant?

Yes — we have specific experience with pre-1920 Edwardian and Craftsman homes. We use breathable acrylic systems on cedar siding and respect heritage colour palettes when required by the City of Vancouver heritage guidelines.

Can you paint a Yaletown or Coal Harbour high-rise condo?

Absolutely. We're approved by most downtown Vancouver strata management companies, carry the COIs they require, and protect elevators and common areas with floor runners and corner guards on every job.

How much does it cost to paint a house in Vancouver?

Most Vancouver interior repaints fall between $3,500 and $8,500 depending on square footage, ceiling height, and number of colours. Exterior repaints typically range from $6,000 to $18,000. Every 4C Painters Vancouver quote is fixed-price and itemized — no surprises.

Are you licensed and insured to work in Vancouver?

Yes — we carry $5M liability insurance, full WCB coverage, and a City of Vancouver business licence accepted by Vancouver strata councils, property managers, and building permits. Certificates of insurance are provided on request before work begins.

How long does an interior repaint take in a typical Vancouver home?

A 3-bedroom Vancouver home usually takes 3–5 working days for walls, ceilings, and trim. Cabinet refinishing adds 4–6 days. We confirm the schedule in writing before we start and stick to it.

What paint brands do you use on Vancouver projects?

We standardize on Benjamin Moore Aura/Regal Select and Sherwin-Williams Emerald/Cashmere — premium low-VOC, washable lines proven in the Lower Mainland's wet climate. We never substitute builder-grade paint to cut corners.

Do you offer a warranty on work done in Vancouver?

Every Vancouver project comes with our written 2-year workmanship warranty covering peeling, blistering, and abnormal wear. Most premium paints we use also carry their own manufacturer warranties up to 25 years.
